A Quiet Revolution
The 2009 Hot Rod Revolution was something rare—something special. A strange brew of mainstream celebrities, real-deal hot rodders, and some of the most historically significant cars ever built, all gathered at a little league baseball field in Penngrove, CA. It was a quiet revolution, but it made all the right noises at just the right times.
That day, I shot close to 500 photos, most of them with my trusty Leica M8. But toward the end, I pulled out the M7 and loaded it with HP5, chasing something a little more visceral. Like most of my work, the results were hit and miss. But this one shot—the So-Cal roadster, abstract and unassuming—has always stuck with me. It’s not important, it doesn’t highlight anything significant, but it’s simple. I love the grain, the tones… the feel of it.
I printed four, signed and numbered the backs, and I want you to have one. They’re free, but you’ll need to cover the shipping.
